  17. <p>     A federal-appeals-court judge who was an also-ran on
  18. George Bush's list of potential Supreme Court nominees, EDITH
  19. JONES, could be in line for another high post. Bush may tap the
  20. ultraconservative Texas jurist to succeed Dick Thornburgh as
  21. Attorney General. The main stumbling block is that Jones has no
  22. trial and administrative experience. One solution would be to
  23. persuade Thornburgh's highly regarded deputy, William Barr, to
  24. stay on under Jones. But that may be a hard sell because many
  25. at Justice consider Barr more than qualified for the top job.
